Uluru celebrates Australian culture through textiles that replicate the works painted by Native Australian communities. Uluru is the largest single rock in the world and the second largest monolith, a sacred place for Australian Aborigines. It is located within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and its formation is thought to have begun about 550 million years ago. Uluru is meant to celebrate Australian culture through textiles that reproduce the works painted by Australian Native communities, traditionally created with thousands of stitches and executed in a traditional way with hundreds of hours of work to fill the entire background.
The motifs come from original paintings purchased directly from the artists with the goal of maintaining and promoting Australian Aboriginal art. The dots symbolize stars, sparks, scorched earth, to bring back the connection of the land to the ancestral world from which everything originated. This particular design is created by Taya Price, an Aboriginal designer from a family of artists in Utopia, northern Australia.
