Scuola del Cuoio was founded in 1949 by the collaboration of the Franciscan Friars of the Monastery of Santa Croce and the Gori and Casini families, Florentine leather craftsmen since the 1930s. The School was founded to teach the orphans of the Second World War a practical trade and thus give them a job.
The Gori family is proud to carry on this Florentine artisan tradition by creating high quality products quality intended for a refined clientele from all over the world. Scuola del Cuoio is the main academy in Italy for the production of bags and leather processing. More than 2000 students from over 40 countries have attended the programs. Among its loyal customers, Scuola del Cuoio boasts Lady Diana, Ronald Reagan, Grace Kelly, Paul Newman and Steven Spielberg, all conquered by the extraordinary skill of the craftsmen.
Eisenhower, who became President of the United States of America, wanted to equip the Oval Room of the White House with a leather desk set made by the Florence Leather School. Since then, it has been a tradition for the Leather School to send the same service to every President of the United States of America
