MUTH was born from the idea of Filippo and Tommaso, fourth generation tanners, born and raised in the Tuscan leather district between Florence and Pisa. Thanks to their experience, they choose only the highest quality leathers in the large storage warehouses in their area and after an accurate quality control they 'regenerate' them. They like to keep the family tradition alive but in a new, more environmentally friendly way. For them, sustainable fashion is only possible if it creates value all along the production path: ethical value, aesthetic value and environmental responsibility.
MUTH ® recovers. Reduces pollution. Avoids waste. Thanks to the AlterLife® method, MUTH gives a second life to the high-end leather that goes unsold every year. Yes, the very same leather used by the big brands to produce bags and accessories worth thousands of euros, which glitter in shop windows all over the world. After checking the quality, they bring it back to life by creating beautiful and durable bags and accessories, entirely handmade in Italy by the best Italian artisans of leather goods.
MUTH does not produce new leather, it uses the leather that's already there. They save energy and water and reduce emissions: in addition, they avoid the disposal of overproduced leather, which is also expensive and polluting. MUTH is a true Made in Italy: they design and produce entirely in Italy, to give you the best in handcrafted leather goods. MUTH ® does not use synthetic materials like the "vegan alternatives": they are made of PU or PVC, they are not completely biodegradable and harmful toxins are released into the environment to produce them. Natural leather is the most sustainable option for the production of bags and accessories, because it is already 'waste' from the meat and dairy industry. Moreover, MUTH always chooses natural or recycled materials for their packaging.
MUTH is a word from the Etruscan language and means 'World'. They chose it because it encapsulates their values: the love for tradition and history of their land, Tuscany, and the search for a modern craftsmanship, which declines the luxury in a more sustainable way. This is what makes MUTH special and what its creators want to bring to the world.
